A Drawing & Writing Workshop was held for Standard 5 & 6 students of Hummingbird Elementary School in Belize City, giving them the opportunity to explore storytelling and character creation. Students designed their own original characters to fit into the world of the fantasy-adventure book, The Land of the Night Sun, and wrote a scene featuring them in the story.
During the session, students took part in a Character Hot Seat activity, where they answered questions as their characters, deepening their understanding of their creations. They also examined their classmates' drawings, making guesses about each other's characters based on visual clues.
To conclude the workshop, author Ian Gibson shared his own character design and read a short scene featuring his character, and answered questions from students about his creative process.
