This book of activities has been created to provide the practice young children need in order to develop their literacy skills. It complements the second book of the Sounds and Letters series of storybooks; many of the activities refer to those stories and their colourful illustrations.
There are four activity pages for each of the fifteen sound/letter combinations covered in Sounds and Letters Book 2:
- Colouring a black and white sketch of the story illustration, often with an additional challenge or discussion point with a cross-curricular link.
- Matching or identifying objects with the target sound/letter combination, reading comprehension, sentence writing.
- Reading and learning sight words and using them in sentences.
- Developing specific cross-curricular links; for example, with Science, Math and Social Studies.
The last page of the workbook gives some tips on how to use the Sounds and Letters series in the classroom. Many of the activities can be used across the curriculum, especially when the storybooks are available for each student.
